# Internet Waveform Atlas (v1.6)
## The Core Insight
**The internet is not a pile of pages. It is a responsive field.**
If it responds, it has a waveform.
If it has a waveform, it can be projected.
If it can be projected, it can be mapped.
**The clean law:**
A web object does not need to be consumed to be mapped.
Its response waveform is already a field trace.

## Constraints
**Light Probe Only:**
- Metadata surface
- Permission-aware crawling
- Rate-limited
- Robots-aware
- No bulk body extraction unless lawful/allowed
**The power move is not scraping.**
**The power move is waveform indexing.**
You map the shape of response, not necessarily the whole content.
## Implementation
### File: `scripts/internet_waveform_atlas.py`
**Components:**
1. `WaveformProbe` - Lightweight HTTP probing
2. `PermissionGovernor` - Robots.txt and rate limiting
3. `WaveformVector` - Vector representation of response
4. `ForestMapIntegrator` - Integration with Forest Map
5. `DeltaGCLReceipt` - Receipt generation for waveforms
### Waveform Probing
**Lightweight Probe Characteristics:**
- HEAD request first (no body)
- Conditional GET (if modified since)
- Range requests (partial content)
- Header-only extraction
- Timing measurement
- Link extraction from headers only
**No Body Unless Allowed:**
- Robots.txt check
- Rate limiting
- Provenance verification
- Explicit permission
### Forest Map Integration
**Waveform → Forest Map Node:**
- Node ID: hash of waveform vector
- Neighbors: extracted from link headers
- Route gate: LIGHT_PROBE_ROUTE
- Revisit schedule: based on waveform stability
### Delta GCL Receipt
**Waveform Compression:**
- Compress waveform vector with Delta GCL
- Generate receipt for proof of probe
- Enable verification of waveform signature

## Integration with Metaprobe

- Waveprobe reading (from metafoam when available)
- Archive.org integration (historical waveforms)
**New Internet Waveform Atlas:**
- Light probing (headers only)
- Waveform indexing (response surface mapping)
- Forest Map integration (topological mapping)
**Unified System:**
- Metaprobe: Deep analysis when permitted
- Waveform Atlas: Light probing always permitted
- Both: Map the field, not consume the content
